Top-Down or Bottom-Up

Should you start a new safety initiative at the top or the bottom of your organization? Should the leaders go first or should you begin with the workforce? Both are legitimate questions as long as you stress the word "start." Safety excellence is not isolated to one level of an organization. Top-Down or Bottom-Up Truly excellent organizations have a strategy developed by leaders, thorough communication from management, supervisors who regularly and effectively practice safety coaching, and a workforce that is engaged and feel a sense of ownership for safety. Where you start is a tactical decision, but where you need to end up should be the endgame of your safety strategy.
