Safety technologies are advancing at an amazing pace. Not only are multiple new products coming into being, they are dropping in price. We are going to be able to do things in safety that were impossible just months ago. Here is the challenge: can we innovate safety management and culture at the same pace as technology? Certainly, technology will assist in the innovations, but can we safety professionals change our mindset from small improvements to huge innovations? Can we create a Blue Ocean of possibilities in safety?
To do so will require more creative thinking. We will have to stop only thinking vertically and start also thinking horizontally, not just following logic a step at a time, but jumping ahead to ideal states and then filling in the steps. We will need to question our current practices and see if they are truly the only or best way to achieve success. What can you do to begin to meet this challenge?
