The ASSP

I have only been a member of ASSP (American Society of Safety Professionals) for about a year. However, I was a member of ASSE (American Society of Safety Engineers) for more than 25 years. The association changed its name last year to be more inclusive of everyone in safety rather than just the technical experts. I am proud to be a member and am proud of the work the society does and allows me to assist them in doing. I am going to their annual convention in two weeks and will lead two day-long workshops during the pre-conference and will give a talk the opening day of the main conference. I find the members to be dedicated to improving safety and mostly open to new ideas. All progress begins with thinking differently and this opportunity to share leading-edge ideas and practices is invaluable.

The ASSP If you are involved in safety and not yet a member, please consider joining. Most of the safety periodicals cover the convention and give highlights of the presentations there. Attend if you can and read these articles if you can't. It is a great source of those new ideas that lead to continuous improvement.
