We have spent decades building systems to physically protect people. And we have continued to make progress. ampersandBut we have largely ignored what happens to people psychologically when the organization asks them to act against their values, or when they witness leadership do the same.

Moral injuries do not show up in your TRIR. They show up in your culture. In disengagement. In turnover. In the slow erosion of discretionary effort. A resilient safety culture is not just one where people go home without physical injuries. It is one where people go home without carrying the weight of ethical compromise.

That requires open dialogue. Systems where people can raise concerns without fear. Leadership that models the values it posts on the wall. And it requires leaders who understand that the invisible wounds are often the most destructive ones.

So this week, spend some time reflecting on this: Physical safety and psychological well-being are not separate priorities. They are the same priority. Is your safety strategy built for both?
