Most new-employee training is an information dump! It is too much information in too little time to be fully understood, much less retained. A recent client actually calls their process "immersion." With so much data indicating that employees new to the job are at significantly higher risk, Onboarding or Waterboarding? it is imperative we better prepare them before tossing them into the work pool to sink or swim.

Organizations that are excellent in safety spend more time and intersperse training with workplace visits and mentoring to make entry into the workplace produce workers more thoroughly trained and ready to address the risks in their jobs. Ask a new employee who has just finished your onboarding process if they feel more trained or tortured.
