How's That Working for You?

In his conferences and writings, Marshall Goldsmith often asks people to describe a problem and then describe how they are addressing that problem. When they finish their explanation Marshall asks, "How's that working for you?" For many, this creates a moment of extreme introspection. Indeed, how is this working and, if it is, why did I describe this as a problem?

How's That Working for You? Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you are frustrated with a certain problem or issue, ask yourself what you are doing to resolve it. Describe it in detail and connect your interventions with the problem you are trying to solve. Then take it a huge step further and ask yourself, "How is that working?"
