Testimonials

"I had read Shawn's book over the past 2 years and was really impressed with the thought process. I knew our EHS team could use this knowledge but was worried that they would not welcome the change. Man was I wrong. Even our most senior person, who was transitioning from workshop skills instructor to full-time safety coordinator picked up what Shawn was laying down. He not only gives you knowledge, but he instills confidence to act. I know that as we continue to use what ProAct is providing and continue our own personal development we will work towards excellence."

~ Glenn Newsome, Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, Alfa Laval

"We are at a point in our continuous improvement EHS journey where we are plateauing in performance. We contacted ProAct Safety to provide thought leadership on methods to drive our EHS culture to the next level. Shawn recorded a keynote address for us to use at a recent EHS Summit which resonated strongly with our teams. His messaging and approach aligns very well with our mission and vision and will be a key factor as we continue to develop our strategic 5 year plan. Great resource!"

~ Marvin J. Faber, Vice President EHS, Thermo Fisher Scientific

"On behalf of GATX Corporation, I would like to thank you and your colleagues for your efforts to support the safety program at our Hearne, TX railcar maintenance facility over the past 18 months. ProAct's Site Strategy and Cultural Safety Assessment and subsequent Leadership Workshop have had a significant impact on the effectiveness of the Hearne management team in managing safety risk. Additionally, your coaching relationship with our Plant Manager has also had a noticeable impact on his development as a leader at the facility. Your approach and efforts have surely contributed to the ∽ 50% year-over-year reduction in recordable incident rate at the facility.

Thanks again and we will certainly let you know if any additional opportunities to help any of our facilities or facility leadership teams in the future."

~ Jeff Nee, VP, Operations, GATX Corporation, Hearne, TX

"Members of the Europacable (a European wire and cable consortium) Safety Task Force recognized a common need within the participating companies to gain a deeper understanding of Behavioral Based Safety (BBS). The need ranges varied from 'What is BBS?' to 'How to elevate existing BBS initiatives'. The Task Force interviewed several webinar suppliers and unanimously selected ProAct Safety, Inc. The services provided included two separate webinars for two distinct groups: One for Management to learn the value of what BBS can bring to the organization and all the elements that are involved in a successful launch; and a second webinar for site safety representatives to focus on the step-by-step roles, responsibilities and lessons learned to lead an effective BBS system.

ProAct Safety, Inc. supported us throughout the entire process (designing of pre-workshop maturity level self-assessments, customization of contents to be relevant to our industry, facilitation of the webinars and providing Q&A responses and reference materials post-webinar). If you are considering such a webinar, don't waste time on researching other providers… Just call ProAct Safety, Inc. to exceed your needs."

~ Portia Groff, Safety Task Force Leader, ECBL

"Shawn Galloway was an EXCELLENT keynote speaker for the Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo. We had to pivot to virtual and he was very flexible and easy to work with. He made a stressful situation much less stressful. He delivered a quality presentation that our attendees highly enjoyed. I would recommend Shawn to anyone considering him as a speaker for their event."

~ Jennifer George, Director - Business Education and Events, Indiana Chamber of Commerce

"Shawn,
I wanted to reach out to you to express my appreciation for the outstanding job you did as the keynote presenter as part of our Virtual Risk Management Speaker Series.
Your attention to detail and collaborative approach to our specific needs was excellent. From the initial planning meeting discussion, to the brainstorming session with our CEO and Zoom practice with the IT vendor, you set the stage for an engaging and dynamic virtual presentation that was well received by our membership.
I've had the opportunity to observe your live presentations and have always been impressed. I'll admit that I was concerned that we might lose an element of the message by presenting the topic in a virtual environment. Your delivery and message via a virtual platform are done remarkably well!
Thanks again and I look forward to working with you again."

~ Bill Hooker, ARM, Training Program Supervisor, Park District Risk Management Agency

"Shawn delivered a presentation that had my entire leadership team verbally saying 'WOW, that was AMAZING' in response to me asking how they enjoyed it. Shawn presented as a technical speaker to the Ohio University chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals. We are a club of graduate and undergraduate students studying Occupational Safety and Health disciplines. His speech drove home the importance of our career choices in the safety industry and opened our eyes to the possibilities that this industry holds. He was thoughtful and thorough not only in his presentation, but also in answering questions at the end. Thank you so much for speaking with us, Shawn."

~ Adda Ashcraft, President, Ohio University's ASSP Chapter

"Great book on safety strategy. This is the next steps (or STEP) in safety strategy development. While their books STEPS lays out all of these concepts, it is also dense with information and requires some time to digest. This book is an easy read and really probes at the 'Why' question. Many people look for easy answers on safety. There aren't any but this book provides you with the questions that should be asked. When faced with thinking about strategy, safety professionals have had to translate/try to interpret externally focused books into what they are working on. This book has specifically focused on safety strategy and provides great guidance to build on."

~ Oenodog

"Excellent and feasible safety culture predictions. Love the book. I will apply the insight. Would recommend this any strategic safety professional. The future of Excellence Safety Culture is now!"

~ Santos Martinez

"Breaks down the process to set up your own safety culture excellence. I bought this to learn more about ProAct system of safety culture excellence. Once I'd finished reading it I bought 15 more copies and distributed them to my entire staff so we could all get on board with this idea. We are using the books to work through our journey towards excellence."

~ Kurt A. Kirkland

"At The Great Conversation, a forum for risk, resilience and security leaders, we like to find subject matter experts in professional disciplines that can contribute their voice to helping create a more valuable ecosystem. We don't source 'great speakers', we source great minds. With Shawn, we were able to get a great speaker, a great mind and someone who deeply cares about creating an excellence culture whether it is safety, security or any other culture. He help bridge the leadership gap that drives engagement with your stakeholders. He exudes trust and care. And he help create a great conversation."

~ Ron Worman, The Sage Group

"We have been fortunate to have both Terry and Shawn from ProAct Safety present at our annual Safety & Quality Summit as keynote speakers and also to lead senior leadership workshops. Both times ProAct Safety supported our event, the feedback was extremely positive from all of our participants. Presentations were delivered in a dynamic manner and at a level that led to genuine engagement with the audience. It was clear that the material used and experiences relayed were based on many years of practical/real-world experience as opposed to academic theory — as a result, there was a very high level of credibility. Having been involved in a broad range of industries, both Terry and Shawn were also able to share different ideas and provoke thoughts and discussion on best practice across the safety spectrum."

~ Duncan Trapp, VP of Safety & Quality, CHC Helicopter

"It was an absolutely great experience taking Chuck and Terry's workshop in Houston, September 18-20. The broad and combined years of experience in the EHS world puts the Proact team on a higher plane than most. Insights into proactive measures for our EHS management systems, learned in the course, are already being applied at our company with real success. The workshop truly assisted my team in putting structure/framework around our BBS program, and it's already producing great results for Halyard."

~ Bill Swanger, Global EH&S Leader, Halyard

"The collaboration with ProAct Safety enabled BIC Stationery plants to go further in its prevention approach. Having our plants managers attend a workshop on Safety Excellence Strategy really changed their mindset and opened the door to new horizons. All the methodology and material supplied by ProAct Safety is very pragmatic and result oriented. You know you are not losing your time. Furthermore, Shawn Galloway is a fantastic speaker, capable of catching the attention of all as well as adapting its speech in difficult situations."

~ Sébastien Chaigneau, HSE Manager, Bic Group Stationery

"Terrific. Shawn did a fantastic job of kicking off our iP Safety Conference and Expo with his keynote. He provided valuable insight on understanding why you are getting the results you are and how to formulate effective strategies around safety. I highly recommend his books and him as a speaker."

~ David McPeak, Director, UBM Incident Prevention Institute

"I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for a job well done at our National Safety & Claims Forum. Shawn did an amazing job reaching our very diverse audience. Shawn delivered an excellent presentation. He was energetic, engaging and inspiring. His ideas and perspectives ensured take-aways for all! Shawn set the tone for a great conference. I would highly recommend Shawn for an engaging keynote address!"

~ Woody Collins, LEAD Manager, American Equity Underwriters

"Charles Douros's insights into safety leadership strategies and coaching for supervisors provided a great value to attendees of BLR®'s Safety Summit 2018. Members of the audience found his presentations inspirational, informative, and helpful in their pursuit of boosting management buy-in for safety and building a stronger overall company culture. Charles' professionalism and expertise make him an asset for any EHS industry event!"

~ Justin Scace, Senior Editor, BLR's EHS Daily Advisor and Safety Decisions magazine

"Galloway has done it again in his fifth book! Shawn Galloway is the most prolific blogger in all of safety. In this book Shawn and his partner, longtime behavioral safety expert Terry Mathis, has answered a long-time challenge to behavior-based safety: How to lessen the administrative load of successful, high observation programs. Any safety professional will benefit from learning how to integrate their BBS into their company's LEAN program (or start one of their own). Highly recommended!"

~ Timothy D. Ludwig, Ph.D.

"Chuck worked with multiple different levels of our company ensuring our safety strategies continue to support our growth and development strategies. He used his industry experience to give us honest feedback and guidance on our safety programs and practices based on actual data collected at our facility. Chuck was professional, friendly and easy to work with."

~ Landon Goodman, President, Modern Waste Solutions

"Chuck worked directly with our senior leadership team and led the effort at a time when the company was working hard to develop and implement several important and lasting safety strategies. While working with us on our strategic direction, he — at the same time- worked with our field employees and supervisors on our safety culture. I relied on Chuck to give us honest, open feedback about the current state our company's safety efforts, and trusted his insights on how to improve."

~ Candace Bonney, owner (retired), Bonney Plumbing, Heating, A/C & Rooter Service

"For nearly fifteen years, I've been fortunate to work with Chuck in several safety leadership capacities. Chuck has a way of engaging all levels of the organization from line workers and supervisors, to the C-Suite executives. As our senior consultant, he has led cultural assessments, LEAN efforts, organizational, transformative projects and behavior-based safety implementations for small business and regional operations. Consider him if your organization is pursuing safety excellence and ready to get to work on improving safety culture. He'll help you get there."

~ Bart Spence, Area Manager, BBSI

"I had the pleasure of working with Chuck as he led our cross-functional team of manufacturing professionals through the successful launch of our behavior-based safety process, engaging associates to demonstrate personal safety leadership and transforming the overall organizational culture. The result was a significant decrease in TRIR, as well as a decrease in worker's compensation claims. If your organization is considering engaging a consultant to help lead a safety leadership transformation, I highly recommend reaching out to Chuck and the rest of the experts at ProAct Safety."

~ Elaine Rudolphi, Director of Manufacturing, SC Johnson

"Working with Chuck, you can expect collaboration with all levels of the organization, passion and innovation — traits that made him a strong member of the team that produced results for our organization. As well, I always found Chuck to be well-versed in the field of EH&S and he was excellent at balancing the needs of the employees with the requirements of management; often a tough balancing act for any Safety Professional. His upbeat. positive approach made our employees want to participate in his behavior-based safety programs."

~ Nora McCarthy, Executive Vice President, Human Resources Kettle Cuisine

"The conference went really well and Terry, as expected, was a superstar! I heard so much great feedback about his keynote and not only that, many speakers throughout the conference referenced what he said in their own presentations, which tells me that he captured their attention and engaged them."

~ Sandy Smith, Editor, EHS Today

"I had the privilege of working with Chuck while we were together at Ralcorp's Frozen Bakery Division. His drive and expertise stood out among his divisional peers and he quickly became recognized for building effective programs and processes that advanced the entire division's safety performance. Chuck is highly skilled in developing and delivering processes that are not only effective, but are also practical to implement and sustain (an often overlooked attribute!). I highly recommend Chuck for anyone looking to make significant advancements in their organization using real-world sensibility."

~ Kevin Haslebacher, CEO, Inked Organics

"By combining the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Behavior Based Safety, Shawn Galloway and Terry Mathis offer an effective and manageable system that will not only improve your Safety performance, but will improve your Safety Culture at all levels as well. Lean BBS is a must-read for anyone considering a journey down the path of Behavior Based Safety and for those whose past experience with Behavior Based Safety proved unsuccessful or not sustainable."

~ Mark Kehne, Production Manager, Cardinal FG

"Anyone who is interested in understanding or improving upon Behavior Based Safety thinking will be interested in reading this book. Readers can gain knowledge of the inevitable evolution of BBS and who leads the effort and why that is important. For me, one of the most captivating parts of the read was Chapter 4: Putting Theory into Action. Terry and Shawn clarify things for me here. It's not enough to talk about behavior based programs, at some point theory must become action. Great stuff! This book was exceptionally very well written and shows the knowledge and expertise of the authors."

~ Dennis Leonard, Regional Safety Director, Kiewit Energy Group

"I think this is most useful BBS resource I have ever seen. The way the book gives perspective really makes the subject matter easier to understand. I think this will be doubly true for companies with no BBS culture at all who are struggling to get a grasp on the subject. BBS is like diet advice, there is so much conflicting information you don't know what to believe! Only Shawn and Terry could have written a book like this. The most succinct explanation of behavior based safety I have ever read."

~ Hutton Andrew, Corporate HSE Coordinator, Southwestern Energy

"Shawn Galloway and Terry Mathis have made a very important contribution to the safety literature with this book. The relationship between BBS systems and an organization's continuous improvement & operational excellence initiatives is not a well understood subject. This work sheds light on the why and how-to. A must read for all managers, change agents, and champions."

~ Yurij Wowczuk, Head-Global Production & Technology, Matthews International

"Great refresher on the Lean approach to BBS. For those new to the concept I think it will be exceptionally eye opening, for those like myself who have taken the internal consultant training and have used ProAct Safety to assist with an implementation this is a great refresher."

~ Kimm Barker, Manager Safety Improvement, BHP Billiton

"This book is a tremendous tool not only for organizations looking to start BBS programs, but even more so for organizations whose BBS programs have flailed or become stale. While BBS is not a magic pill for safety, the book does remind us of the essentials of BBS that made safety professionals so excited about BBS when it was first introduced. There is no 'right way' to do BBS and it must be adapted to each organization, operation, or team."

~ Kelvin Roth, Director Corporate Environmental Health & Safety, CF Industries

"Shawn spoke to our women's group about goal setting and it was absolutely inspiring. His presentation was relevant, personal, and relatable. The information and tips not only applied to our professional goals but also our personal goals. Every point he made resonated with everyone in the group and our discussions continued after he finished. We can't thank Shawn enough for his engaging stories and thought-provoking takeaways! "

~ Kristin Chestnutt, Cy-Fair Women's Club

" We brought Shawn in to lead a discussion with our NA EHS team to find new, creative ways to further shift our safety culture. I have had nothing but positive feedback from the discussion; he challenged our current thought process regarding our perception of continuous improvement within safety which compelled us to change our focus. The entire group was invigorated and ready to start on our new journey. Shawn brought forward a logical and seemingly simple path for us to succeed. I am looking forward to this new exploration."

~ Tom Furdek, NA Health & Safety Senior Manager, Ingredion

"I have been following ProAct for several years. Ever since I heard Shawn Galloway speak during a webinar, I remember thinking, 'This guy really gets it.' Shawn has a common sense approach to safety where common sense isn't always so common. The ProAct Safety books, articles and podcasts are great resources that I utilize time and time again. I hired Shawn to give a keynote address and workshop for our U.S. Operations Manager's Conference. It was truly a great event with so much positive feedback and deliverables that called our managers to action. Thank you Shawn!"

~ Craig J. Thede, HSE Manager, CBRE

"'Terry Mathis is a bastion of information and wisdom for safety professionals.' 'This was the most useful and practical class that I've attended in at least 10 years. I took so many notes I used up my pen. I can't say enough good stuff. Excellent in every way.'"

~ ASSE SeminarFest Attendees

"Shawn and his company have long been a voice of reasoned best methods in safety management. (I also greatly appreciated their support of our Management Practice Specialty at ASSE.) His counsel has always been spot on and readily useful within the safety realm. Thank you!"

~ David Bascom, Business Unit Safety Manager, POWER Engineers

"I'd like to take a minute to thank Shawn Galloway for delivering our Keynote Address to over 300 field contractors/workers and underground operators in Oklahoma and some folks from surrounding states. I heard a lot of positive feedback from those in attendance and his message really struck home for many of them.

We appreciate Shawn coming and sharing his industry expertise. I know people walked away with new ideas and information they can take back to their companies and put into action. I would recommend Shawn for other companies seeking an expert in safety... Shawn really helps you see things from a new and innovative perspective."

~ Susan Bohl, Executive Director, Oklahoma One-Call System

"Great book on safety strategy. This book is the next step (or STEP) in safety strategy development. While their book STEPS lays out all of these concepts, it is also dense with information and requires some time to digest. This book is an easy read and really probes at the "Why" question. Many people look for easy answers on safety. There aren't any but this book provides you with the questions that should be asked. When faced with thinking about strategy, safety professionals have had to translate/try to interpret externally focused books into what they are working on. This book has specifically focused on safety strategy and provides great guidance to build on."

~ Kelvin Roth, Director - Corporate Environmental Health & Safety, CF Industries

"Shawn Galloway does it again. He takes complicated principles and makes them simple for all of us. Strategy is so important... but so are tactics. Just like 'executives are important and so are front line leaders'. The penetrating questions he poses in "Inside Strategy" are potent and powerful. I plan to take my multi-national team through this book and answer these questions knowing that it'll make us better, stronger, and more equipped to face the future. (from one U.S. Army veteran to another)...
'Thank you, Shawn for your insight, your passion, and your willingness to help and equip others on their journey towards a Culture of (safety) EXCELLENCE."

~ Kirk Bagnal,, Director of Global Environment, Health, and Safety, Domtar Personal Care

"Most books on safety seem to turn into regurgitated information from all the other books and manuals already in existence. 'Inside Strategy' throws all of that out the window. Shawn and Terry bring an approach rarely discussed in a safety aspect when it comes to success - the STRATEGY of how to get there. By building upon the simple three part concept discussed in the writings it is almost impossible not to reap the rewards of continued improved safety excellence. This book is a must read at all levels. Outstanding information in an easily understandable format."

~ Dennis Leonard, Safety Director, Cherne Contracting Company

"Inside Strategy is a must-have for leaders on a mission. When you don't know where to start on your improvement journey, Shawn and Terry offer practical and valuable guidance, almost a road map, for seeing, defining, and setting strategic direction. When you can't quite wrap your arms around an action plan, read this book. Inside Strategy takes into consideration where your organization is, where you want it to be, and most importantly, the people that live the culture within it. When you understand, like these experts do, that behavior drives the success you desire, you are more apt to focus on the right things. Shawn and Terry combine thought provoking questions with accounts of "been there" that get you to focus on those right things."

~ Karen Korte Boulanger, Director-Safety, Ameren Illinois

"ProAct Safety has been a valuable resource for the reference and implementation of safety culture strategy for over two decades. Inside Strategy artfully takes the impactful ProAct Safety insights of safety culture to the more broad applications of full organizational culture. Inside Strategy raises the bar for strategic thinking today and future generations."

~ Scott Steinford, CEO, Trust Transparency Consulting

"Inside Strategy challenges the reader to step outside of the traditional business strategy thinking, and look much deeper in the individual core components that make an organizational strategy successful."

~ Danial Bravard, Associate Vice President - Risk Management and Safety, Memorial Hermann

"Strategy - we can all define it, we think. Galloway and Mathis take a fresh look at this topic and make a compelling case to re-think business strategy in new terms: inside our organizations. Not many companies understand how important our internal strategies are to creating long-lasting business success and deep value. Inside Strategy is a thoughtful and thorough piece of work that starts with first principles and leads the reader on a logical and compelling journey. When you are done with the book you will be left with an urgent desire to get to work on developing your own internal business strategies. This book is a worthwhile investment."

~ Bill MacPherson, Mill Manager, Domtar

"Through their book Inside Strategy, Shawn Galloway and Terry Mathis provide an excellent framework for using strategic thinking to improve performance within any organization. Their work with my former organization helped us to identify the critical few issues, formulate a strategy for change, drive alignment and develop a roadmap for implementation. In this book they lay out a philosophy of continuous improvement that draws on everything from the Greek classics to their experience in the trenches of business."

~ Stan Goleman, SVP Operations, Retired, EnLink Midstream

"This well written guide to strategy execution contains questions that while simple, are amazingly clarifying at focusing us on the path to excellence."

~ Paul Walsh, President & COO, Ascent Aerospace, LLC

"The conference was one of our best yet! Thank you for being our keynote. Your talk resonated well with the audience and the feedback was great!"

~ Marlene Stanger, ESH Operations Lead, Monsanto Company

"A Must Have for Safety Strategy Development. This book provides a tremendous framework for developing your safety strategy. Quit chasing injuries and start your journey to excellence. This book tackles all areas of strategy development from creating a vision to determining metrics. A must have for any safety professional."

~ Oneodog

"Shawn is very detailed-oriented and produced great result for our company during his mission in Azerbaijan. His superb speech and presentations at Safety Leadership Conference brought it to success. I certainly would recommend Shawn Galloway for any audience willing to listen, learn and bring back to their companies valuable ideas."

~ Aydin Hajiverdiyev, Quality Assurance & HSE Department Director, Rovshan Oguz Group

At this point in our safety evolution Shawn's message was on right on target with what we needed. The presentation was excellent, participants engaged with participant scores and comments all in the upper range. My expectations were met by his presentation and several of the points he made initiated several conversations during the conference.

~ Glenn Baker, Director-Safety, Dairy Farmers of America

Spent Tuesday in a work shop conducted by Shawn Galloway (President of ProAct Safety and coauthor of several bestselling books including STEPS to Safety Culture Excellence (2013) and Forecasting Tomorrow: The Future of Safety Excellence (2015). Both of which I've had the pleasure of reading and personally recommend to be added to everyone's library). The amount and quality of the information during the work shop was almost overwhelming. I only wish I had had the ability to bring Shawn in for a two day workshop with our people

~ Dennis Leonard, Safety Director , Kiewit Mining Group

"… I felt this webinar was excellent. I wasn't prepared to be so engaged until the first comment was made…that the pitfall of any program or safety person is 'trying to do too much at once'. This resonated with me…and I was rather engaged the rest of the hour. Clearly knowledgeable instructor, which is very hard to find. Safety is so much more than just about technical knowledge. Interested in the rest of the series now."

~ Marsha Bell, Regional Health & Safety Supervisor, Tolko Industries

"A company cannot be great without having a great safety culture. This book allows us to 'see the future of safety' and take steps to make sure we are ahead of the pack."

~ Paul Walsh, President & COO, Ascent Tooling Group

"I had the honor of reviewing STEPS to Safety Culture Excellence by Shawn and Terry prior to its release and found I had to read it twice just to fully grasp the astounding knowledge and expertise that was between the covers. In reviewing their latest collaboration, Forecasting Tomorrow: The Future of Safety Excellence, I am once again amazed and impressed. This is a book that all levels of management MUST read. To bring the major shift necessary in many safety programs/philosophies/cultures it is imperative that those managing the companies must think with strategic priorities and possibilities and have set plans for specific periods of time. This book is an insight as to the true future that can await us in our pursuits toward safety excellence. When I find that I can't stop re-reading the material, I know I've found a winner. This book is a homerun! I strongly recommend, no, encourage, all those who manage, or hope to manage, successful safety teams read this book."

~ Dennis Leonard, Safety director, Kiewit Mining Group Inc.

"This book is a great companion to STEPS to Safety Culture Excellence. Both books challenge the status quo of safety and challenge the reader to rethink traditional safety 'knowledge.' Where STEPS laid out what the journey to safety excellence might look like, this book describes what you might see along the way.

For years, safety professionals have pushed for the elevation of safety within an organization. Now that safety is gotten the attention of senior company leaders, safety professionals are pushed to show value to the organization and alignment with their organization's strategy... not in an altruistic way but in a real-world, business way. This requires a change in mindset for executive, operational and safety leaders. How do we continue moving our thinking from 'Zero' to excellence.

In addition to the strategic elements of safety, this book also discusses how safety programs, metrics and technology will need to be integrated into business strategies for organization success as well as furthering safety excellence. It also challenges the current roles of safety professionals and consultants and looks at how they might provide more business value in the future.

While there may still not be a silver bullet, Shawn and Terry have found 'the yellow brick road' toward safety excellence and are enthusiastic guides."

~ Kelvin Roth, Director Corporate Environmental Health & Safety, CF Industries

"Once again, I compliment both Shawn and Terry for their dedication to continue to challenge our way of thinking as it relates to safety as well as how we approach safety excellence within a business culture. As an EHS professional in the Oil & Gas Industry, this book has done an excellent job forecasting trends as well as provoking new thoughts around the advancement of Safety Excellence which I have been able to apply directly to our organizational strategy. I encourage functional and operational leaders as well as EHS professionals alike who have a desire to further develop the effectiveness of their safety culture within their organization to read this book and apply its principles."

~ Sean Atkins, Vice President - Environmental Health & Safety, Enlink Midstream

"All of the predictions ring true and are helpful in preparing us for heading that direction. It is good thought provoking information that should be required reading for management prep. Leaders and safety professionals who read this book will have an opportunity to set themselves up to be on the leading edge of safety excellence as this movement unfolds."

~ Leslie Kantor, Safety Manager, NW Natural

"Forecasting Tomorrow provides an in depth look at how the field of safety is progressing beyond traditional safety management approaches. This book is a must read for any safety professional that wants to continue to adapt to the changing environment we support. Shawn and Terry provide great insight into the value in aligning and integrating safety into business in a very practical manner. Thanks Terry and Shawn for another great reference for safety and business professionals alike!"

~ Cory Beliveau, Manager Health & Saftey, ARC Resources Ltd.

"What a thought provoking read! I love the positive connection that Shawn and Terry make between production and safety, neither have to come at the cost of the other, but actually enhance one another.

Great read! Terry and Shawn are spot on if organizations adopt Transformational Measurement into their measurement equation. It would take companies to new level of focus."

~ Brian Scott, President, CoreCulture

"This is a sensational book which every forward-thinking leader should read. I love the author's message that safety should have a strategic approach that focuses on value, rather than the old-school mentality of MORE programs. Take their advice to heart and you'll truly be achieving success, rather than avoiding failure."

~ Greg Ford, CEO, TalentClick

"Peter Drucker once famously said that 'Culture eats strategy for breakfast.' No amount of procedure or technology - the other two legs of a comprehensive safety program - can overcome a poor safety culture.

Forecasting Tomorrow predicts a near-term future influenced by transparency and reputation, driven by social media and responsibility. A future where safety moves from tactics oddly separated from business strategy and policed by 'safety cops,' to a competitive advantage led with commitment throughout an organization. A future where safety is no longer regarded as a cost, but an investment - a core value recognized by management, workers, shareholders, and customers alike.

Forecasting Tomorrow is a great read for those willing to take on the mantle of safety leadership in the coming years."

~ Steve Ludwig, Program Manager - Safety, Rockwell Automation Inc.

"Shawn and Terry's book elevates the critical goal of Safety Excellence from a risk management initiative to a key driver for Operations and Business Excellence. Oil and Gas, manufacturing, and mining organizations and consultants will find game-changing insights here."

~ Katherine Molly, Principal, Northland High

"I think the book is excellent and challenges many currently held convictions about safety excellence, such as "zero injury" safety programs being something to which EHS professionals and corporate leaders should aspire, perceived acceptable risks versus unnecessary risks and promoting a "safety culture" as opposed to safety being ensconced as part of the business culture and included as part of business decision-making.

Through their travels and meetings with corporate and safety leaders around the world, I think that Terry and Shawn probably have a better idea than most about the trends impacting safety and safety performance and are accurate in their predictions about the future of safety excellence, the most profound of which is the integration of safety into the business culture and the demand that metrics focus on value and not just meeting numerical goals like zero injuries (aka "failing less").

As the old saying goes, "If you want the same results, keep doing the same things." But as Terry and Shawn point out in Forecasting Tomorrow, "If we seek different results, we must ask more intelligent questions and realize today's answers will be antiquated tomorrow." Having a strategic plan and working that plan to achieve sustainable safety excellence - rather than creating programs to achieve specific goals - is something that business leaders understand and safety leaders need to adopt. True corporate leaders should lead safety like they lead production and other aspects of the business. Shawn and Terry are right: "Safety culture is an aspect of company culture and cannot be delegated or outsourced."

~ Sandy Smith, Editor-in-Chief, EHS Today

"Once again Terry Mathis and Shawn Galloway have provided a logical progression of thought on the importance of evolving the culture of Safety to prevention based contribution to bottom line business results. This is an important read for any executive to understand how growing a culture of Safety will deliver better results than slogans or campaigns."

~ Arron S. Angle, Executive Consultant

Star Chart "I would propose that the term "roadmap" may be too limiting. A map guides you to places that others have been to before. This book/process sets the course to achieve results not seen before.

I am using this book, as well as the ProAct DVD "90 Minutes to Safety Culture Excellence", to help guide my company's Leadership Team to develop the approach for a newly formed company. The modular approach breaks it into manageable pieces that keep a room of Type A personalities engaged.

Thanks to Terry and Shawn"

~ RWKon

"Good book. Great content. Full of useful things. I hate reviews. On Amazon you can look into the pages and decide for yourself."

~ Sergio Reyes

"Just maybe my new favourite Book to share with others."

~ Michael S. McCrea, CSS NCSO, Horizon North Logistics

~ Mr. A. Tustin

'Mr. Mathis was a great speaker, and took the temperature of the room very well. He was sensitive to the group, and gave great pointers for improving not only BBS, but also communication in general.' 'Lots of good ideas for new or old behavior based programs. I like it because it covered all behavior based programs. Really worthwhile.'"

~ ASSE SeminarFest Attendees

"Shawn Galloway delivered a keynote address on Creating and Sustaining Safety Culture Excellence® at Business & Legal Resources' Safety Summit... Many safety managers lauded Shawn's presentation style and content. They noted that he touched on many relevant insights into defining and achieving safety excellence that can serve as clear direction for launching a culture of excellence."

~ Laura Scott, Director of Events Content

"If your company or business is striving to achieve safety excellence, I would strongly encourage you to consider ProAct Safety. We recently partnered with ProAct to develop a path to achieving a zero-injury culture. We are now confident that we are heading in the right direction on a journey to safety excellence. ProAct was very effective at helping our organization think in new ways about the value of safety as a business initiative. They were very organized, prepared and delivered as promised. For us, the help we received from ProAct was a game changer in our safety evolution."

~ K. Willian MacPherson, Mill Manager, Domtar Paper Company, LLC, Kingsport, TN

"In 2014, FMC Technologies, Inc., Western Region Subsea Business Unit (BU) sought the external assistance of ProAct Safety to provide an outside perspective on our safety excellence strategy and the current safety culture within the WR Subsea. We saw ProAct Safety as a team of highly experienced consultants that have worked with other companies in a variety of industries to achieve impressive results… and our experience with them this year has proven this out!

ProAct Safety's goal was to provide our BU with profound insight into what was motivating our safety performance and culture and what was necessary to further our injury-prevention efforts and enhance the existing safety culture. Through their proven methodology of assessing a business' safety culture, they were able to identify the beliefs most important to advancing our current safety culture and determine precisely what experiences were influencing beliefs to sustain or improve them. They have identified a strategic framework with prioritized objectives and initiatives that will align expectations to advance both injury-prevention and cultural enhancement efforts.

ProAct Safety's Terry Mathis and Shawn Galloway ensured the project was based on the needs of FMC Technologies rather than the expertise of the consultant. Their approach was collaborative, proactive, results-orientated, fit-for-purpose and strategic (yet practical in nature). Their experience, knowledge, dedication, passion and customer focus was continually demonstrated and visible throughout the project.

I highly recommend ProAct Safety for any organization seeking external support in improving their safety culture. ProAct has proven to be a valuable partnership in our journey to achieve and sustain safety excellence."

~ Larry Barnett, Western Region Subsea HSE Manager, FMC Technologies Inc.

"I wanted to express my appreciation to Pro Act Safety and Shawn Galloway, in particular, for his participation in our Annual Leadership Safety Conference. Shawn is an excellent speaker, and he really connected with the audience. I received numerous comments from our leaders about the positive message and in-depth insight he provided involving their role in safety culture. I can confidently say that everyone walked away from the conference with ideas about how they could improve their engagement with employees and help drive significant improvements in safety performance. Having read the book "Steps to Safety Culture Excellence" I looked forward to the additional thoughts Shawn would provide at the conference. Shawn did more than deliver; he left a lasting impression that has our organization eager to raise the bar! I would encourage any organization looking to advance their safety culture to reach out to Pro Act Safety. On behalf of my safety team and our company, thank you Shawn."

~ Al M. Payton, Director, Safety and Technical Training, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric

~ ASSE Safety 2014 Attendees

"Shawn's presentation was excellent, he found a way to engage everyone in our organization: from senior management to front-line worker. His presentation helped people to find their personal safety attitude in the performance of their jobs. This session helps our employee's step-up and become leaders in their own lives and to buy-in to safety for themselves. I would recommend Shawn to all organizations that strive for excellence!"

~ Adam Colbrese, Sr. Site Safety Professional, Exelon Nuclear

~ Tom Boehler, Director of Safety and Compliance, Erb Group of Companies

"Great book. We bought this for our leadership team to read. After reading it there were many questions that we had to ask of ourselves about our already Good Safety Program and Culture. Highly recommend getting this book if you want ways to improve your Safety Program and Culture."

"Dear Terry: On behalf of the Pipe Line Contractors Association, our Board of Directors and our Safety Committee, I would like to thank you for your presentation on December 4, 2013. "Everyone should read this. Shawn & Terry have a cool way of explaining the complex and making it sound easy. Everyone needs this book!"

~ Fred Miller

"We recently invited Shawn Galloway to speak at our leadership development training. Shawn's approach impressed me from the beginning. Instead of just rolling out a canned leadership presentation, Shawn asked us a lot of questions during our first phone conversation that were geared towards finding out what we wanted to accomplish by having him speak to our group. Shawn tailored his message to address our needs and our specific goals. Shawn's presentation was spot on and the group discussions that Shawn facilitated afterwards really got our team thinking of improvement strategies. Shawn's presentation and interaction with our team exceeded my expectations."

~ Stephen Laramore, Health & Safety Manager, Colowyo Coal Company

"The workshop was outstanding! The audience were engaged and the content you provided was excellent. I had many positive comments from the delegates and a few asked for your email, so I passed it on. I hope you don't mind. I am keen to work with you again in future so I will be in touch."

~ Adam Minkley, Project Director, DecomWorld

"'Roadmap' is the Right Description 'STEPS' is an excellent roadmap for building upon the culture already present in our workplace. I'll be using it to improve where we are going with our business' safety program. This roadmap -- from developing a strategy (most of us don't have one) to selling the strategy to how we do or don't utilize discipline is presented in an easy to follow format. Love the lists of questions to be answered at the end of each STEP. We'll be getting started on our first STEP in the next few weeks."

~ Brent Charlton, CSP

"I am pleased to highly recommend Shawn Galloway of ProAct Safety, for professional speaking and training engagements related to health and safety management.

Shawn provided both a keynote address, as well as a half-day workshop on safety culture excellence for our internal Company safety conference this year. Feedback from the sessions has been fantastic. In fact, Shawn's sessions were the highlight of the event, according to the participants.

Mr. Galloway's messages are delivered with a perfect mix of practical, easy to understand concepts, combined with excellent academic and thought provoking content. Having had the opportunity to see Shawn speak at other events, my expectations were very high when I engaged him for this event. Shawn was able to deliver a perfectly tailored presentation which exceeded my (high) expectations, especially in terms of audience response & feedback.

Since our conference I have had several requests from participants to review or discuss implementation of concepts from Mr. Galloway's presentations, and requests to have Shawn participate in future events. Both of these are strong indicators of the success and value Shawn brought to our event. I would highly recommend Shawn Galloway for companies who are looking for ways to drive performance and achieve excellence in health & safety management."

~ Dan Banta, Health Safety & Environment Manager (Americas), Pearson PLC

"Shawn will take your safety program to the next level with his keen insights and excellent teaching and coaching skills. Outstanding safety culture is not industry-specific, so no matter what industry you're in and no matter how well-developed your safety culture, you will appreciate his instruction."

~ Fred Miller, Safety & Health Bureau, Montana Department of Labor & Industry

"I have had the opportunity to hear Shawn speak on several subjects including; leadership and culture. His simplistic approach provides valuable insight on situations that are too often difficult to grasp. He also allows his audience to engage in meaningful and constructive Q & A which provides others the opportunity to question their approach and learn new methods. I would recommend Shawn for your next conference."

~ Hal Williams, Manager of Safety and Health, Bridgestone Firestone

"Shawn is an amazing speaker and presents interesting topics that are very relavant to the safety industry!"

Thank you again for sharing your safety concepts and strategies, I'll be subscripting to your podcasts."

~ Russ Jeansonne, Midwest Region Safety Director, United Rentals

Challenges Traditional Thinking "I would highly recommend this book to anyone who leads safety or people in general. This is a step by step road map to develop and continuously improve your existing culture to excellence. I found myself reading the STEPS over and over again. This book is rich in information that is results-oriented and extremely practical to start in your organization today. I find myself referring back to this book on a regular basis. Terry and Shawn are truly leading the safety industry to excellence and consistently challenge the status quo of traditional thinking"

~ DJ Savoy, EHS & HR Manager

"Whether you are running a safety program or simply looking for leadership principles that can change a culture, this book is a MUST HAVE! "The perfect ending of every journey is not where it takes you, but what it makes you" (Mathis & Galloway, 2013, p.ix). If you have a leadership team I recommend reading this book along with your team, to foster a culture of excellence!"

~ K. Parker, Vice President

"Recommend Steps to Safety Culture Excellence to safety professionals and managers in the work place. Easy read to follow for improving the safety culture in your company and personal outlook."

~ Edwin

"As a ProAct Safety follower I was really looking forward to a book that could put all of what our Plant has learned in to a step-by-step guide to keep our journey towards safety culture excellence moving forward. This book is all of that, and more. Shawn and Terry's knowledge, shared experiences and passion for safety makes this book a must read for any organization. Each milestone (STEP) in the book does just what I want a book to achieve, attain more knowledge, further my passion for safety, but more important, being able to apply the learnings in to your organization. Our Plant is implementing and adjusting some of our STEPS."

~ Mark Casebeer

Excellent book with clear and tangible information - MUST READ for any safety professional! "This book is a true must read for any safety professional who is or is trying to bring about a shift in their safety "culture" approach. Currently, I have read through this twice - as much as we feel, as safety professionals, that we get it - Terry and Shawn continue to show us (me?) that there are many things we take for granted and shouldn't. The book illustrates clearly and profoundly the importance of having a "TRUE" safety strategy, one that is not just communicated, but EFFECTIVELY communicated at all levels throughout the organization. Although all the STEPs may not apply to everyone, I found that I took something positive away from each one although some more than others. I challenged my management team with the questions in each of the STEPs and found that some have quite different interpretations than that of the main senior managment team - which leads to less clear expectations to those reporting up to those management members. As a senior safety professional in a senior role in my company I recommend ALL of you look at having everyone who are leading others in your pursuits to safety excellence read this book and participate in the questions and exercises. To me, those make the whole book - it is tangible and reflective of how well the message has been previously communicated and how to move forward with the message and the strategy decided upon. As always, Shawn and Terry, you continue to make me stronger and more educated everytime we have some form of contact or communication. Thank you for saying what it is so clearly that even I can comprehend it!"

~ Dennis L.

"Our experience with ProAct Safety was as the administrator of education for our membership. We provide to our membership of construction contractors, industry related topics such as the ProAct Safety program we chose, "Training Supervisors to be Safety Coaches". We requested that this program be provided as a webinar, but we are new to the webinar process and required extra attention in set-up and communication to our registered attendees. Traci Long provided detailed instruction, a well formatted registration page and was available through the entire process for questions or clarification. The program content was valuable and the webinar slides were very organized and easy to follow. Our instructor, Terry Mathis's lecture was detailed and very well received by our membership."

~ Charlene Zezawa, SMACNA Metropolitan Detroit Chapter

"Galloway's presentations provided excellent insight on safety leadership. His presentation of the various models for leadership were useful, but his depth of understanding and examples were particularly valid. In the Q&A session, he provided excellent guidance on how one achieves cultural excellence, which is particularly difficult in this age of transformation."

~ Richard Pollock, President, American Society of Safety Engineers

"We hired Shawn as our opening keynote speaker for our safety conference. Shawn delivered an excellent presentation. He demonstrated depth of knowledge on the topic of safety and developing a safety culture within and outside of the workplace. He was energetic, engaging and inspiring. He was able to connect with his audience of more than 550 individuals with diverse experiences and hold their attention. His ideas and perspectives ensured take-aways for all! Shawn set the tone for a great conference. I would highly recommend Shawn for an engaging keynote address!"

~ Judy Murphy, President & CEO, Safety Services Manitoba

"The first Master Level BBS workshop was excellent. We spent 2 days immersed with Shawn Galloway and Terry Mathis in a complete discussion of where we are now in BBS - where we are going - and how to apply BBS principles in other areas of our business. This small group session allowed the attendees to learn from each other and discover how others attacked issues similar to ours. Well worth the time and travel - looking forward to the next workshop."

~ Beth Randolph, Director Risk Management Division, Beaulieu Group

~ Corinna Carver, NOSAH Safety Conference Attendee

"The Leadership BBS coaching workshop that Terry Mathis put on, at our site provided our entire group with tools that will help each individual improve the overall motivation of the personnel performing the actual BBS observations, in our mature program. His message was exactly what we needed to move our safety program in a positive direction. Since Terry's presentation/training, the management team has been able to better support our workers, and our numbers and quality of observations have improved significantly. These factors have certainly led to a safer working environment for our folks, with fewer and less significant incidents. Thanks again for working with us, and tailoring the training in a positive direction!"

"The 'Leadership Safety Coaching' workshop held at our facility with Shawn Galloway was excellent. We were looking for a workshop to aid us in the development of our coaching for safety and ProAct provided an excellent program to meet our needs. I feel one of the most important messages from Shawn was 'When an unsafe act is performed, the most likely outcome is nothing will happen.' This is the hardest hurdle to overcome and prevent an unexpected accident. The workshop provided our leaders with knowledge and information to help our employees and contractors improve behavior safety."

~ David Rodgers, ES&H Manager, INEOS Phenol

Mr. Galloway did a PHENOMENAL job in his presentation. I not only enjoyed his easy style, but learned a lot. Of particular interest was his diagram on the safety excellence "bridge." He also "hit the nail on the head" for multiple other areas (i.e., alignment in strategic direction, perception barriers, coaching, safety "branding" issues, etc.) Thank you so much for this most informative session!"

~ ASSE Safety2012 Attendee

"Shawn provided one of the best sessions this year. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided a very good session on how we can create an excellent safety culture. He had excellent analogies and graphics. Very good. I will definitely signed up to go to other sessions that Shawn provides."

~ ASSE Safety2012 Attendee

"Mr. Galloway packed so much detail into this 1 hour presentation that there was no room left for questions (but he subsequently did by e-mail). This was the best session I attended this PDC."

~ ASSE Safety2012 Attendee

"It was truly a very timely and positive experience to have attended your workshop. It was a shot in the arm for me to have the opportunity to interact with you and to observe your style. Seeing the passion and excitement that you have for your believe in what you do is really contagious. I have mentioned to several people at ASSE what a great workshop you put on AND that there should be more of the type of workshops."

~ Bob Debner, Sr. Risk Engineer, Zurich Services Corporation

"Montana has the unfortunate distinction of being a state with one of the highest workplace accident, injury and fatality rates in the country. We're working hard to change this. A primary initiative in this change revolves around shifting our entire state's perspective of safety, working to create a Safety Culture in line with Montana's Safety Culture Act. One of our most notable efforts in this push is SafetyFestMT. These events, held around our state, provide free safety and occupational health training to businesses of all sizes and industries. In the past, we've had a strong offering of Behavior Based Safety trainings at SafetyFests - and our decision to expand courses in this track initially led us to ProAct Safety. A personal conversation with Shawn Galloway sealed the deal.
Instantaneously, it was clear that Galloway understands the dynamics of human behavior and is able to probe deeper into the "Why?" of accidents. As we said, in Montana, our mission is to change the safety culture among our population of 1 million. When we asked Shawn if he was up to a challenge of this magnitude, he said his was even bigger - he's "trying to change the global safety culture." At that point we knew we had a great fit. His vision perfectly aligns with our mission in Montana, and because of his forward thinking, for the first time we'll bring a full Safety Culture creation course to Montana's businesses. Hopefully, this brings us both one step closer in making Montana, and the world, a safer place to work."

~ Kara Graetz, Project Manager, MT Department of Labor & Industry

This led to a successful implementation programme and a massive reduction in accidents (50% in the first year) and gave us much better communications with all people on our site."

~ Ian Wilson, Safety Manager, Oughtibridge-UK, Georgia-Pacific, LLC

"We hired Shawn to help us "get over the hump" on our safety performance. His expertise and training has helped us turn around our safety culture. "Top management in our company spent an entire day with Shawn as he made a comprehensive, detailed, thoroughly understandable and enjoyable presentation of Behaviour Based Safety, and how it would be implemented and applied to our company (6,000 employees). One of the best prepared and most powerful presentations I've ever seen. Highly recommended."

~ Scott Williams, Vice President - Quality Assurance, Beaulieu Group, LLC

"We looked at several Behavior Based Safety (BBS) Consultants and eventually chose Shawn and ProAct Safety based on their philosophy of helping an organization create their own self-sustaining program. Shawn and ProAct are experts in behavior based systems, and held our hands early on, educating us about BBS, helping us to analyze site data, and understand BBS dynamics in the workplace. They helped us make the implementation as simple as possible while still addressing site specific needs. We have been extremely pleased in all areas with their work. ProAct helped us establish a great site BBS program as advertised, and also ensured it was self sustaining without further consulting. More importantly, we saw a reduction in injuries as a direct result of the BBS program. I would highly recommend Shawn and ProAct to anyone looking to establish a BBS program."

~ Justin Noll, Plant Manager, Cherokee Pharmaceuticals, LLC

"I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for a job well done here with our associates Jan 4th thru the 7th. As you are aware, a team selected the ProAct Lean BBS program for implementation at our 15 manufacturing facilities in Georgia and Alabama. One of the primary reasons was that we found your program to be much more flexible/customizable so that we could easily blend it with our current culture changing efforts, mainly BLAST and Lean Six. We desperately wanted to avoid the "new flash in the pan" or "flavor of the year" program view from our associates.

Day 1 was 9 hrs with the very highest level of management at Beaulieu and in my 20 yrs of working here it is the 2nd program I have seen presented to them where their attention was maintained throughout the day. They are sold on the program and totally supportive of it being successful. Days 2, 3 & 4 were spent training each locations internal safety coordinators and their feedback has been most positive. We are proceeding with two pilot implementations, with each of the coordinators working these implementations, at which time they will each return to their respective plants and perform the same work individually. The pilots will each be worked at for one month, then the coordinators will perform the same work/training at their respective locations for the next month.

You're a gifted speaker and we look forward to continuing to work with you during the year long full implementation of our new program."

~ Bob Ingram, Vice President, Safety & Risk Mgt., Beaulieu Group, LLC

"Shawn and his company have been extremely helpful in the development of the Rexam safety process. As an internal consultant for Rexam, trained by ProAct, I have frequently sought help from Shawn in dealing with a variety of issues. His breadth of knowledge and experience has provided me with creative solutions to my problems."

~ Randy Klug, Director of Health & Safety, Rexam Beverage Can

"Shawn is great to work with. You will really appreciate his desire and ability to understand your safety culture prior to offering opportunities for safety improvement. Shawn provides so much support beyond the service agreement and hands over the entire tool box for you to pick and choose the appropriate tools, allowing site to site flexibility as we strive for continuous improvement in safety. ProAct Safety truly thrives on your success. Every part of their process will be customized to your site and will become your process. This is employee operated and managed with very little oversight. Each site had a different implementation strategy, site specific checklist (based on the history of that facility), and the freedom to choose its own pace. Training internal consultants from across the company to manage the process has been extremely cost effective, yet efficient thanks to the constant support from ProAct Safety (by way of telephone, site visits, podcasts, as well as a network of companies that are willing to share successes and opportunities from their experiences). ProAct Safety's approach is perfect for the lean environment of today."

~ Max Reichen, Safety Director, Hollingsworth & Vose

~ Janet Friday, Director, Cherokee Pharmaceuticals

"ProAct Safety implemented an "observation based" safety program at Impress North America. Shawn was an integral part of the assessment process, which included customized recommendations for each of our high-speed manufacturing facilities. Our Safety & Health Manager found Shawn's advice during the sometimes controversial implementations to be sound and creative. The Pro-Act process is simple and effective, resulting in measurable improvements in both accidents and safety culture at Impress North America, with good buy-in from both union and non-union employees."

~ Carolyn McKinney, Vice President, Human Resources, Impress North America

"Working with Shawn and ProAct has been a great move for our organization. The professional expertise and personal care provided was exceptional and our safety culture has made dramatic improvements since implementing the strategies shared."

~ Brian Ingles, Employee Development, Roquette America Inc.

"I've been working with Shawn and ProAct since 2006. Shawn is a consummate professional and a very dynamic speaker. My personal interests in Behavioral Based Safety have been reinforced tremendously by his teachings (conferences, webinars, articles, podcasts, and power lunches). Best of all, Shawn is honest, sincere, caring and goes out of his way to help you out. I look forward to working with him more in the future."

~ David Cleveland, Behavior-Based Safety Task Force Member

"My Plant was selected to be the pilot for implementation of Behavioral Based Safety in Europe. During the study, Shawn and his company had visited our Plant several times. Their ultimate knowledge on safety, including classical safety, was way impressive. Also, their approach to employees who are from a different culture had made our kick-off very successful and valuable. Despite the language barriers of the local employees, they were able to reach and understand the employees and make them believe the importance of the program. ProAct's behavioral based safety program, I believe, one of the most successful programs in its area. Program makes employees able to create their own program. Employees create and own the program from the beginning. Nothing is based on templates and pre-defined formats. Every items used during the implementation are created by the employees. I believe this is very important for a program which should be used by employees most of the time. Lean BBS could easily be applied to almost every sector and plant versus other BBS programs. This is also another good thing about the program."

~ Tayfun Akusta, Environmental, Health and Safety Site Leader-Turkey, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies

"I feel honored and Glad to write a recommendation for you and ProAct Safety, it's been a year since I started listening to the Safety Culture Excellence Podcast and attending several of the Seminar or Webinar from your firm and every time is I had have great Insights of the future and perspective that EHS professionals should take to prevent accidents. The quality of the content and the Professionalism of your firm make ProAct Safety a must to every firm that is in pursuit of achieving a Zero Accidents or Hazard Exposure Culture. I will continue to seek learning and sharing experience with the community of satisfied customers and EHS professionals in the journey of Excellence. My most sincere recognition and admiration for the great job you do every single week."

~ Francisco Ybarra, EHS&S Manager, Eaton Corporation

"I have had the pleasure of working with Shawn implementing BBS programmes in countries throughout Europe, the course delivery and content was always first class, and tailored to suit the culture of the site and audience. I would not hesitate to use ProAct in the future should the need arise."

~ Paul Fenner, Director Safety & Health Northern Europe, Georgia Pacific, LLC.

"Shawn Galloway has contributed numerous articles to my publication, EHS Today, which serves professionals in the safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene and environmental management arenas. Shawn's knowledge of and ability to communicate the value of safety culture excellence and risk management is impressive and his articles are some of the best-read in our magazine and Web site. In addition, ProAct Safety Inc. is an acknowledged provider of safety excellence strategies."

~ Sandy Smith, Executive Editor-EHS Today, Penton Media

"Several years ago I heard others talk about the benefits of ProAct's behavioral based safety efforts. At Omaha Public Power District we knew we needed some help taking us to the next level in safety, as we had leveled out on our recordable injury rate (Production Operations division). We stayed at 3.5 for around seven years. Shawn has done a fantastic job of helping us implement behavioral based safety practices. This appears to come easy for Shawn, as 'he is behavioral based safety'. You quickly learn that this is not just a job for him, it is a way of life. He talks of using it in his home with family members, as well as through implementations at other companies. Shawn's passion is obvious, behavioral based safety. The great thing is that he takes a couple of his talents and uses them to follow his passion. Public speaking is one of Shawn's many talents. You find him very captivating and inspirational. I think of him as Mr. Quote. From memory he can always produce an appropriate quote for the situation. The sharing of great ideas is another of his talents. These ideas helped our groups implement sustainable behavioral based safety practices."

~ Greg Krieser, Division Manager-Production Operations, Omaha Public Power District

"I have had the pleasure of working with Shawn on two plant-level safety transformations. In both cases, Shawn drove lasting and sustained safety improvement by elevating the skills and capabilities of the management team and, at the same time, transforming the attitudes of production employees. Both assignments were extremely challenging - older facilities with established cultures and ways of working. Success in such environments truly demonstrates the efficacy and utility of Shawn's approach and abilities. I would recommend him and his firm without hesitation to anyone that is serious about transforming their safety culture."

~ Yurij Wowczuk, General Manager, Illinois Tool Works

"Shawn represents one of the top companies in delivering cost-effective comprehensive behavioral-based business processes. A clear out of the box thinker that can offer pragmatic solutions...that can adapt to the culture of any company. I have been associated with ProAct for the past 13 years and will continue to capitalize on the continuous improvement opportunities that ProAct has distinguished itself in a very competitive marketplace. If you are looking for a business partner that has the business acumen and adaptive stance to deliver performance excellence...it would be a solid business decision to consider ProAct as a strategic partner. The performance outcomes will exceed expectation and leverage a safety culture of sustainable performance improvement."

~ Lloyd Hansen, Director Safety & Health, Martin Marietta Materials

"Shawn has the right skills to explain the concept to the decision makers and easily implement a programme through the teams in place in a perfect adapted manner. Indeed, I've learnt Behaviour Based Safety from Shawn and successfully tested in my organization the benefits of deploying it. I was skeptical at the beginning and trustful once the results were visible. I recommend working with Shawn whenever you consider Safety as a priority and this before overinvesting in equipment and useless technical complications."

~ Ciprian Florea, Technical Director, Engineering, Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company/Mars Inc.

"Shawn and ProAct had helped our large manufacturing plant in Turkey with the most difficult task of all in safety, culture change and behavioral influence. They were able to communicate a simple methodology and made it possible for the employees to become their own safety consultants. All my employees have been touched by the Behavioral Based System Proact implemented and 2 years after implementation we are still using it with great results both in terms of keeping our record of not having had an accident and also educating our employees to act safely outside of work."

~ Charles Guler, Plant Manager-Turkey, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies

"Somewhere in a dictionary under the definition of effective is a picture of Shawn Galloway with the following attributes listed:

  • Constantly seeking knowledge
  • Able to transfer new information to action
  • A highly effective communicator
  • A human being with a drive to empower his fellow man
  • Most importantly someone that you can trust and depend on

If you want to learn how to be a professional seek out Shawn as a mentor."

~ Tim Lovley, Director Health & Safety, Dynegy

"I first had the pleasure of meeting Shawn at his Lean Behavior-Based Safety workshop. I was amazed not only at his mastery of lean philosophy and behavioral science, but also his ability to synthesize the two and communicate the resulting approach to safety in a thoroughly practical manner. Since then, I have continued to learn a great deal from Shawn both directly in conversation and indirectly through his many journal articles blog postings, and webinars. He is always available, always helpful, and always practical. I will continue to look to Shawn for wise counsel and confidently commend him to you for the same."

~ Todd Hickerson, Director - Health and Safety, Mission Foods

"Shawn and ProAct Safety implemented Lean BBS at one of our manufacturing facilities as a pilot implementation and we followed up by having them train our EHS staff to be internal consultants and implement ProAct's program corporate wide. Shawn and the ProAct team do an excellent job of implementing BBS. They've remained our partners for 6 to 7 years and are always available when we need assistance or an opinion. Shawn is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent speaker/presenter. Any chance I get to hear Shawn speak always leaves me inspired and with renewed energy for safety and behavior based safety."

~ Todd Miller, Corporate Environment, Health and Safety Manager, Herman Miller

"Terry Mathis excels when it comes to teaching a practical, commonsense approach to Behavior-Based Safety. He relates well to everyone, from people on the floor to those in the highest levels of the company. His extensive experience "in the trenches" means you get level-headed, hard-hitting advice on everything from calculating the true costs of Behavior-Based Safety to handling various implementation and improvement challenges. If you're thinking about attending this seminar, I have two words for you: Do it."

~ Gene Burrows, Corporate Director of Safety, TAMKO Roofing, Inc.

"With Terry Mathis's approach to Behavior-Based Safety, the employees develop the process for their facility. Because of this, there is a great sense of ownership that drives the employees to make the process successful. I especially like how we've been able to customize the process to meet the needs and preferences of each of our plants - it's much easier than changing the way you work to accommodate a 'one-size-fits-all' approach."

~ Jennifer Harp, Division Safety Manager, Temple-Inland Forest Products Corporation

"If you want to be proactive, not reactive, about safety, you need Behavior-Based Safety. It's as important to proactive safety as Six Sigma, Deming and other initiatives are to proactive quality. I'm sold on the process because it works. We've gone over six years without a lost-time accident - we're really preventing employees from getting hurt.

For a 'street smart,' hard-hitting look at what Behavior-Based Safety really involves and how to make your process a success, you need Terry Mathis and [ProAct Safety]. You'll get practical explanations and real-life examples from someone who has walked in your shoes, not theory and book-smart advice from someone living in an ivory tower.

If you're going to implement Behavior-Based Safety on your own or are considering the possibility, I've found no one better than [ProAct Safety] to teach you what to do. They give you everything you need to be successful."

~ Ben Akery, Plant Manager, Saint-Gobain Vetrotex America

"The missing link to modern day safety."

~ David Rodgers, Regional Safety Director, INEOS Phenol
